Car crashes and soft tissue injuries

Las Vegas is an exciting place to live or visit. Cruising around the city is one of the most popular pastimes for locals and visitors alike.

Streets crowded with cars and pedestrians may prove the perfect place for car crashes to occur. When you find yourself in a collision, you may want to get through the process and leave the scene as quickly as possible. However, you may have gotten hurt without realizing it. Soft tissue injuries are some of the most common in a car accident. Learn how to spot them and what you should do if you find yourself feeling the pain.

Soft tissue is vital

The soft tissue is the network of muscles, ligaments and tendons that make up a substantial portion of your mass. These integral tissues are responsible for connecting, supporting and protecting vital organs and functions. Walking is not possible without hip flexors or connective tissue in the knees. Likewise, the muscles in the back provide support for the spine and protection for the ribcage. An injury to these areas may result in significant pain and long-term damage.

Recognizing the signs and symptoms

After a crash, the adrenaline surging through the body may mask the signs of an injury. Many people leave the scene of an accident, believing they escaped bodily damage only to awaken the next morning, unable to move without pain. If this occurs, there is likely an underlying soft tissue injury. An injury to one small area may cause widespread disruption in movement. Thus, any pain or immobility may warrant an immediate trip to the doctor for diagnosis and treatment.

Most common types of soft tissue injuries

Some soft tissue injuries are more prone to occur in car crashes. Areas such as the neck and back are the most likely to sustain damage. The most common type of soft-tissue injuries to watch out for include:

  • Whiplash
  • Sprains
  • Strains
  • Bruises

You must receive medical evaluation after a crash to ensure you do not do more damage. A physical exam may result in faster treatment and eventual recovery.
