How to prevent an accident due to sun glare

Getting into an automobile collision is unfortunate and often entails a lot of costs and hassle. It is even more unfortunate when something out of your control, such as severe weather conditions, causes the accident. Sun glare is one such factor, as it can happen suddenly and prevent you from seeing what is in front of you.

If you get into an accident because of sun glare, it is your fault, even when you have no control over it. Here are some ways to prevent glare while driving.

Wear sunglasses

Wearing sunglasses during the daytime is not only good for your eyes, but it can help prevent collisions as well. Sun glare can even happen during the winter months when you are less likely to take precautions against the sun. Light can reflect off of snow on the ground, so be sure to have a pair of sunglasses in your vehicle year-round.

Clean your windshield

Cleaning your windshield eliminates debris that could impact your ability to see. A clear window also reduces the potential for glare.

Slow down

If you still encounter sun glare with sunglasses and a clean windshield, make sure you are driving at a reasonable speed for the road you are on. This way, you will be able to stop more quickly if you encounter something that takes away your ability to see clearly.

Understanding how to mitigate the impacts of sun glare can help you avoid the costly repercussions of a motor vehicle accident.
