Watch for signs of drunk drivers this holiday season

On Behalf of | Dec 1, 2022 | Motor Vehicle Accidents |

The holiday season means that some people go to gatherings where there’s alcohol available. Those partygoers should find someone who’s sober to drive them home, even if they have to use a rideshare app. Unfortunately, some of them don’t think they’re too drunk to drive and get behind the wheel.

Throughout the holiday season, you should be sure that you’re watching for signs of impaired drivers. If you see any of these signs, try avoiding the vehicle. You can make a report to the police if it’s safe to do so.

What are the signs that a driver is impaired?

There are many signs that a driver is impaired. You may notice only one of these, but you may see more.

  • Swerving between lanes
  • Stopping abruptly
  • Following too closely
  • Driving erratically
  • Going through stop signs and lights
  • Driving on the wrong side of the road
  • Failing to use turn signals or headlights when necessary
  • Hitting objects on the side of the road

Impaired drivers don’t have the ability to react to obstacles when they drive. It’s always best to try to avoid them as much as possible. Even if you’re driving as safely as you can, one of these drivers can still slam into your vehicle.

Being struck by an impaired driver can lead to catastrophic injuries and huge financial consequences for your family, so ensure you get the proper medical care following the wreck. You may opt to claim compensation for your losses, but experienced legal guidance is key to getting what you’re rightfully owed.
